"Inspired by a child’s curiosity and created by a mother — designed for children, with children in mind."

Smarty Pants Family

Smarty Pants was born not in a boardroom, but in a living room filled with crayons, bedtime books, and two curious little minds who once asked, “Can we start our own library?”

Our story began across the ocean — in classrooms and libraries in the U.S., where our kids spent their early school years. There, reading wasn’t just a subject — it was a habit, a ritual, a joy. From daily reading hours in school to bedtime stories at home, books became a natural part of their day. They were encouraged not just to read, but to write, imagine, and explore their world through words.

When we returned to India, things changed. New surroundings, new schools, new challenges — and for our children, the adjustment was big. We, two sisters (and moms), knew we had to do something to ease the transition. So, we did what felt familiar and comforting — we brought in books. U.S. comics, toddler reads, anything that kept that spark alive.

And somewhere between flipping pages and sharing stories, an idea quietly bloomed.
Why not create a space — not just for our kids, but for many — where books are celebrated, shared, and loved? And the best part? Our kids didn’t just support the idea, they built it — with their tiny hands, open hearts, and big dreams.

They picked the name “Smarty Pants.” They drew the first logo in their notebooks. They recommended their favorite books and helped us sort by age group. Every decision — from book themes to sticker labels — had their tiny fingerprints on it.

Their enthusiasm took us back to our own childhood — when Sundays meant reading Tinkle, laughing at Suppandi, being enchanted by Ambuli Mama, or diving into Amar Chitra Katha and The Seven Secrets. We knew then: this wouldn’t just be a library. It would be a bridge — between generations, between classic tales and modern favorites, between imagination and reality.

And so, Smarty Pants was created — a cozy little corner where children’s curiosity leads the way.
Here, every book is handpicked — some recommended by kids, others pulled from timeless treasures. We believe books do more than entertain. They teach empathy. Spark imagination. Build vocabulary. Boost focus. And above all, they help children see the world — not as it is, but as it could be.

We’re not against screens or tech — but we believe books offer something screens can’t. A quiet moment. A sense of wonder. A lifelong habit.

So, this isn’t just a business. It’s a circle of readers — of parents, grandparents, and little explorers — all coming together to build something meaningful, one story at a time.

Welcome to Smarty Pants — from our family bookshelf to yours.
